ARTS BALLET OF FLORIDA BRINGS THE MOST COLORFUL FUN BALLET PRODUCTION OF CHIPOLLINO TO BROWARD CENTER AND NORTH MIAMI: The ballet, "Chipollino," choreographed by Vladimir Issaev, director of the Arts Ballet of Florida, was arranged to the music of Russian composer K. Katchaturian and is based on Gianni Rodan's tale about vegetables. The story is about a naughty green onion character, Chipollino who is very popular in Russia. Issaev has renewed his choreography and entire production for his very exceptional dancers and has adapted his own version of the story, in order to make it more practicable for American audiences.
The action takes place in a happy town, Limonia, where flowers, vegetables and fruits share their lives under the power of the mean Prince Lemon. Chipollino is the last name of a popular family of onions that live in a very happy village, with many other vegetables. All is well in the village until the Chief of Police, Tomato, arrives to tell the villagers of a new law, that requires all villagers to pay for sunlight, rain and wind. When Chipollino steps on the chief's foot, as a sign of protest, he then runs away. When police can't find him, they take his father to jail, causing more problems for Chipollino and the villagers. Through music and dance, Chipollino's folktale expresses a much deeper political statement.
