THE BROWARD STAGE DOOR THEATRE PRESENTS A REVIVAL OF THE POPULAR PLAY
"STEEL MAGNOLIAS": Steel Magnolias serves up a southern slice of life that is as warm and comforting as sweet potato pie. The story revolves around Truvy's local, homey beauty salon, in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where several very different, close-knit friends, patronizing the salon, share their inner most secrets, regarding fears and love, for one another, while including the audience in their hysterical neighborhood gossip, that includes weddings, divorces, babies, funerals, and many other stories. They share everything about their lives with grace and determination, while admiring each other's perfectly, beautiful, newly groomed hair. When tragedy happens, Truvy's Salon is where they seek comfort and support to help them through their sorrow. In the play's four different scenes, these women experience birth, life, and death in each other's arms.
Steel Magnolias is a very funny, sweet, slightly clichéd, look at the lives of six southern women who were raised to be delicate flowers, but when necessary, can handle anything with nerves of steel, grace, and naturally, well kept beautiful hair, and a sense of humor.
This quaint and charming play opens at the Broward Stage Door Theatre September 24, and runs through November 7, 2010, in theatre 2. Performances are Wednesday at 2 p.m., Thursday at 2 p.m. & 8 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. & 8 p.m. & Sunday at 2 p.m. & 7 p.m. Tickets are $38 at the box office located at 8036 West Sample Road, Coral Springs. PANDEMONIUM: THE LOST & FOUND ORCHESTRA TO MAKE THEIR DEBUT IN ADRIENNE ARSHT CENTER'S ZIFF BALLET OPERA HOUSE: Pandemonium recreates every section of a symphony orchestra, using musical saws, bottles, whirley toys, and everyday objects. As a result of all this chaos, surprisingly enough, they create every section of the sounds of a symphony orchestra. The debut of Pandemonium brings adventure, imagination, and a great, delightful way to launch the Adrienne Arsht Center's Fifth Anniversary Season, one month earlier, by making it their first stop on their North American tour.
Reworked for 2010 with a dazzling array of homemade instruments, a twenty-five member mix of veteran Stomp performers, classical musicians, physical comedians and aerialists, Pandemonium, also includes the human voice added to the mix. What begins with simple melodies becomes a symphonic adventure as Luke Cresswell serves as the on stage conductor of the fifty plus member company.
A thirty-member choir of local singers will add the vocals, ready to take Miami by storm, at the Arsht Center from September 16th to September 26th, 2010. Tickets are $15 to $55, with special VIP seats at $75, which includes best seats plus an opportunity to meet and greet the cast, available at the box office located at 1300 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami.
